Overview

This document will identify the population groups and types of patients more susceptible to the effects of heat exposure; memorize the CHILL’D-OUT questionnaire for assessing patients at risk for heat-related illness; review the types and the signs and symptoms of heat-related illness;  practice using the resource - CDC’s Heat & Health Tracker on the internet. 

You will need to pass the CEU post-test with 75% or higher to receive credit. 

Learning Objectives

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the population groups and types of patients more susceptible to the effects of heat exposure.
  • Memorize the CHILL’D-OUT questionnaire for assessing patients at risk for heat-related illness.
  • Review the types and the signs and symptoms of heat-related illness. 
  • Practice using the resource - CDC’s Heat & Health Tracker on the internet. 

Required Activities:

  1. Read the Nevada RNformation Article Heat Waves: Assessing Patient Risk and Tracking Heat-Related Illnesses, July 2024.
  2. Explore and practice with the CDC’s Heat & Health Tracker. Type in your location and review the findings for Today's HeatRisk. This is a tool you can share with your patients. 
  3. Achieve a post-test score of ≥75%.
